Current Issue Highlights

In this multicohort analysis of people with COPD, a higher genetically predicted body mass index (BMI) was associated with higher cardiovascular mortality but not respiratory mortality. Individuals with a discordantly low BMI had higher all-cause and respiratory mortality rates than those with a concordant BMI.

This study of patients with ARDS receiving protective ventilation suggests that PEEP increases pulmonary vascular resistance only when it induces significant lung distension compared with recruitment. PEEP had no effect when it was associated with lung recruitment.

This study suggests that the cooccurrence of surfactant protein B–specific IgG autoantibodies and surfactant protein B–specific CD4+ T cells is associated with the risk of development of pneumonitis in patients with lung cancer treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors.
